Chapter 4
Brian’s heart sank at the sound of her voice. He was already an emotional wreck but hearing Linda struck him hard and all of his feelings surfaced.
“Heh…hey.” He mumbled. “I just got the phone call. I’m sorry.” he said.
“How are you holding up?” she responded timidly.
“I’m not doing so good.” He said as tears rolled down his cheek onto the receiver. “We…I don’t know…the rest of the fellas and I…we just can’t deal with this!” he said in frustration.
“I know, Bri.” She sighed. “Neither can I.” Her eyes welled up again and she could hear Brian sobbing on the other line. “How can they be sure he’s…”
“I don’t know.” He interrupted. “I don’t know anything right now. I just want my kid brother back.”
“I want my husband.” Linda cried softly. “I just had my appointment today and…”
“And…” Brian coaxed her.
“I didn’t even get to tell Nickolas that we’re having a baby girl.” She sobbed.
“Oh Linda, I’m so sorry.” Brian sighed heavily. Leigh Anne hugged Linda again, crying right along with her. Leigh Anne took the phone back and held it to her ear.
“Bri, sweetie,” she said soflty. “What are you going to do?”
Brian took a deep breath of air and sighed.
“The fellas and I are coming home immediately. We can’t finish out the tour- hell- we can’t even finish out a show without…”
“I know.” Leigh Anne added. “I don’t want you getting on a plane.”
“Trust me baby girl, I don’t want to get on a plane right now either, but it’s the only way.” He replied. “I’ll call you later. Take care of Linda for me. I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Leigh Anne said before hanging up. She got Linda a glass of ice water and sat next to her on the sofa. “I’ll stay with you tonight.” She said to her.
“No, that’s okay Leigh.” Linda said softly. “I’ll be okay alone.”
“Are you kidding? I’m not going to just leave you here…”
“Really, I’ll be fine. I just need some time alone. I need to get things straight in my head.” She added. Leigh Anne looked at her questioningly. “I promise, Leigh Anne. Really, just go.”
Leigh Anne was worried but she respected her friend’s wishes. She gave Linda another hug and showed herself out.
“I’ll call you.” She yelled before she closed the door.
